Godox Bi-Color Flex Mats

There are a lot of products on this landing page, so I want to go over everything quickly so you know what’s what. First, let’s start off with the Godox flex mats. The 4x4 has quickly become one of my favorite key lights. The 4x4 light comes in a kit with a 4x4 frame that’s quick and easy to build out. It’s a 600w light so it’s extremely bright and our tests have proven it to be very color accurate even when dimming. We used the new Godox bi-color flex mats to light this Patrick Mahomes interview for ESPN’s MNF game vs the Eagles earlier this November. Here’s a BTS shot and a few samples of the final image. The flex mats made it easy to get in close in a cramped space and boom low enough to provide a simple wrap and eye light for Patrick and there’s enough space to get a 2nd key in there for our host Jeff Darlington.

I love these bi-color flex lights. They’re incredibly affordable and are quick and easy to set up. Quick note. While the mat itself is waterproof, the ballast IS NOT. I am hoping Godox releases a Pro version next year with a completely waterproof system. Until then, this is a great, affordable entry point into larger flex mats for anyone who doesn’t need full color and doesn’t want to spend $5-6k on a system from Litegear.

If you can only buy one, buy the 4x4 system! At 25% off it is only $1300 which is a complete steal. I can promise you that you won’t find a better light deal this holiday season than the 4x4 flex mat from Godox.

Godox LiteFlow K1 Reflector System

The new Godox Liteflow K1 system is intriguing!

Clearly a copycat in the Lightbridge, Dedo and Kflect realm, it’s the first “budget” reflector panel option I’ve seen that’s been made affordable for owner operators. There has been some buzz about this online, with some folks complaining that it’s too direct of an imitation when compared to those other options currently on the market. I don’t have a strong opinion on this point because I’m not an international patent lawyer and I don’t think it’s fair for anyone to expect an average video professional to become an expert on international patent law in order to make a purchase. I’ll leave that conversation up to those companies to work out.

That said, from my vantage point, MANY systems we use in pro video are direct rip offs from other companies. Almost every point source 600D COB led light with a Bowens mount is essentially the same thing. Same with your standard 4x4 magic cloth or ultrabounce. Those are all nearly identical and are made by dozens of companies. Most of the filter market. Shiny boards. Apple boxes. C-stands. Spring clamps. “Cardellinis”. Baby pins. LED tube clamps. Many companies are making a very similar if not identical product using a slightly different name. When is it standard business practice and when is it unethical? Again, I’ll leave that to these companies to work out. I just want to say that it’s not as simple as “there’s another product out there like that already” so Godox is automatically wrong for introducing competition in this space.

I haven’t had the opportunity to test this stuff out myself in the field much yet. All I can say is that it feels high quality. Both on the reflectors themselves and with what you get in terms of the case, the cleaning kit, the gloves and the mounts. I was really impressed when we opened our K1 LiteFlow kit up and were able to get them on stands. This is something I can see us using A LOT in 2024.

The K1 LiteFlow kit is $2490 at full price and with the CKL promo it is only $1870! That is an incredible price for anyone who is looking at getting started using high quality precision reflectors.

To get a better look at the K1 LiteFlow system in person, here’s our friend Michael Della Polla with a quick YouTube review stacking up Godox’s K1 Liteflow against the Lightbridge CRLS system to show some pros and cons. I think a big question everyone has is “If we buy LightBridge CRLS vs the K1 LiteFlow, what exactly are we getting for that premium price?”

Watch the video to see Michael’s impressions on performance and build quality.

Godox 1200Bi and Modifiers

I've shared test results and some sneak peaks at the great modifier options for the Godox 1200Bi in our private Cine Kit List Facebook Group but it really comes down to this. The Godox 1200Bi is a great light at a great price and with this discount, we wanted to make it a no brainer for anyone considering the purchase. This is a screaming hot deal.

We've been using our Godox 1200Bi as the primary key on jobs for MLB, Sony, NFL, CNN and a ton of high end clients the past few months and it absolutely shines. I love it, my crew loves it. Godox has been listening to what owner/operators interested in this lighting category want and everything on this light is an upgrade from their previous fixtures. The head cable and power lead are tough and the connectors are robust and satisfying to lock into place. The new G-Mount locking modifier system is great because it completely eliminates the notorious “wiggle” of the Bowens mount system. I don’t know about you, but I cannot stand trying to mount or dismount a large softbox from a Bowens mount while it’s wiggling around inside the fixture. There’s too much play in a Bowens mount and while there are many existing, affordable modifiers for Bowens, I’m ready to move on from that system entirely.

The G-Mount that Godox has incorporated into the 1200Bi build is locking. You feel a satisfying click when you’re mounting your reflectors or softboxes and it’s easier to remove them when you’re ready to swap to the next one. In addition, the G-Mount provides pass-through power via the electronic pins. That means two important things. One, you can power the modifiers themselves via the ballast. For example, the new Godox Spotlights 36º / 26º / 19º have built-in fans that help cool those units down. They use the pass through power from the G-Mount to make those work. Also, the electronic pins talk to the fixture and tell it which modifier you’re using. That means, that if a particular modifier affects the Kelvin temperature of the beam itself, the light will be able to compensate for that by adjusting some settings automatically.

Godox has a ton of great modifier options available for the 1200Bi. There are 4 reflector options 15º / 30º / 45º / 60º, multiple large lanterns, softboxes, a killer fresnel with barn doors and 3 different spotlight options 36º / 26º / 19º all for 25% off. I had some user questions on which modifiers were brightest so I put together this quick reference chart to show off the modifier options in order of brightness and what kind of lux you can expect at 3M (9’ 8”).

Godox AT200Bi Airtube

Very quickly here, the AT200 from Godox is a small 4’ Airtube that works like a mini balloon light. Great for overheads. Here I’m gaffing a project featuring Jalon Daniels and we’re using the AT200Bi overhead hanging from some piping to create a soft source and skirting off the edges so that the background goes completely black.

Worked great and the AT200 has plenty of power! This is essential kit for anyone who needs a lightweight option that packs down small and still delivers plenty of output!
