Above video is showing the capability of the SuperBase Pro 2000 to power my Aputure 600c while simultaneously recharging using the 200w solar panel. For the last two months, we’ve been bringing our SuperBase Pro with us in the field. Why? First off, you can create your own power station anywhere. Put it on the bottom of an Inovativ cart in the middle of a field and charge your laptop, client monitor, phone, camera batteries and wireless systems for the entire day with no concerns about noise. That means you can be shooting an interview 10’ away and not worry about the low rumble of a gas generator. In addition, 2000w is a lot of power! You can run multiple Aputure 600D Pros at full intensity or even hook up your 1200D or 1200Bi lamps anywhere, with no pesky noise to interrupt filming!
The Zendure SuperBase Pro 2000 is capable of over 2000W of simultaneous output with up to 3000w surge power. The SuperBase Pro 2000 uses NMC cells, which provide a high power to weight ratio while having at least 3000 charge cycles. The lower output SuperBase 1500 does use the more expensive LiFePo4 cells, which will last longer before degrading but comes at the cost of output. I see most battery products as a temporary, not permanent solution. So I’ll almost always go for the higher output. What I mean by that is very few battery products we are using today, will still be relevant in 10 years. Not that we won’t be using battery products in 10 years or that if you purchase a SuperBase Pro 2000 it won’t work in 10 years. Simply that battery technology and power stations are evolving at such a rapid pace, you’ll likely be replacing products like these within 4-6 years anyway. So I’m structuring my purchases based on output and not longevity for the moment. That’s why I recommend the SuperBase Pro 2000 over the 1500. However, if you are more concerned with longevity and want this system to operate at near 100% capacity in 8-10 years, you should probably opt for the 1500 instead.
Do I need to add a 200w solar panel? That depends. Here are my quick thoughts.
If you’re charging lower draw items like camera batteries, a laptop, monitor or charging some phones and you want to make sure you are going to run all day, yes. The 200w solar station gives you around 125w back while powering those devices. So if your laptop is drawing 60w and a battery and phone are pulling another 40-50w, you won’t be losing any charge from your SuperBase Pro if the sun is out. Or, say you are drawing closer to 250w. You’ll only be losing 125w as the solar panel will be charging back the other 125w. So if you want to run for longer in the field and you know you’ll have some sunlight, I’d add the solar panel, especially at this price. Now, if you are powering higher output items like the 1200D Pro, 125w will not extend your runtime significantly. So it’s up to you whether or not it’s worth the investment. For me, it is because the solar panels adds versatility and runtime to my power options in the field. My thoughts are typically, if you are ever going to use it, add it during the time of purchase.
